Early 1800s Norwegian lion tankard, known as a løvekrus, hand carved in solid wood as a traditional ceremonial drinking vessel.

The cylindrical body is turned and carved by hand, featuring classic lion symbolism in the sculpted thumb lift and decorative elements. A strong example of rural Scandinavian folk art craftsmanship.

This piece shows clear age cracks through the lid and body, as well as later repairs near the lower section. It displays honest wear from a long life of use. The wood has developed a stunning deep patina with warm tone and beautiful natural grain throughout.
