This is an antique Norwegian rosemaling box, likely from the Os region near Bergen, dating to the early 1900s (c. 1910s). The richly hand-painted floral and scroll motifs in warm greens, reds, blues, and yellows display the characteristic folk art tradition of “Os-maling.”
The box is made of wood with a hinged lid and metal handle. The interior is unpainted wood, and the inside of the lid carries painted decorative details as well. The exterior shows signs of age—wear on edges, slight paint loss in places—consistent with over a century of history.
