This is a rare 19th-century Norwegian rosemaling storage box, beautifully hand-painted and dated 1867. Crafted from wood and richly decorated in traditional green, red, yellow, and blue floral motifs, it represents the folk art heritage of rural Norway.
Such pieces were often made as bridal gifts — used to store food, valuables, or fine textiles — and later treasured as family heirlooms. This example features its original paint, finely carved legs, and decorative ringed body. The box is inscribed “1867” on one side and “KHD” on the other.
