The Agfa ePhoto 1280 is a historically significant digital camera released in 1997, recognized for its distinctive rotating lens design that allows the lens unit to rotate independently from the camera body. This innovative construction made it easier to shoot from challenging angles and set the model apart from other early digital cameras of its time.
Equipped with a 0.8 megapixel sensor producing images at 1024 × 768 pixels, the ePhoto 1280 could interpolate images up to 1280 × 960 pixels using Agfa’s PhotoGenie software. It features a 3x optical zoom lens equivalent to 38–114mm (f/2.8–3.5) and relies entirely on a 2-inch TFT color screen for image composition, as it does not include an optical viewfinder.
The camera has been tested and is able to take photos. Images are stored on SmartMedia cards, and this example includes an original 4MB SmartMedia card. The camera uses four AA batteries; there is some corrosion present in the battery compartment, consistent with age, but it remains functional. No cables or additional accessories are included, aside from the original storage case shown.
