This Mid Century Norwegian porcelain wall relief was designed by Konrad Galaaen and produced by Porsgrund Porselænsfabrik as part of their studio production during the 1960s–1970s. The piece features a stylized owl figure, rendered with strong geometric forms typical of Scandinavian modernist ceramic art.
The relief is made in glazed porcelain using advanced studio glazing techniques developed at Porsgrund. Through controlled firing and slow cooling, crystalline structures form within the glaze, giving the surface depth, texture, and subtle variation. The color palette consists of cream, brown, black, and orange tones with a distinctive graphic contrast.
Marked “Studio,” signed by Galaaen, and stamped Porsgrund Norway on the reverse, this example comes from a low production series and is considered difficult to find, even within Norway. Its compact size and sculptural presence make it an appealing collectible within Nordic Mid Century studio ceramics.
