This Mid Century Norwegian porcelain wall relief was designed by Konrad Galaaen and produced by Porsgrund Porselænsfabrik as part of their studio production during the 1960s–1970s. The piece presents a stylized abstract figure rendered with strong geometric forms, characteristic of Scandinavian modernist ceramic art.
The relief is crafted in glazed porcelain using advanced studio glazing techniques developed at Porsgrund. A controlled firing process combined with slow cooling allows crystalline structures to form within the glaze, giving the surface depth, subtle shimmer, and visual movement. The color palette features blue, cream, black, and white with bold graphic contrast.
The reverse is marked “Studio,” signed by Galaaen, and stamped Porsgrund Norway. Produced in limited numbers, studio pieces of this scale are considered scarce. The work offers a striking vertical presence and stands as a refined example of Norwegian Mid Century studio ceramics.
