Vintage miniature Sámi komsio, also known as a gietkka, made as a toy cradle or folk art object. This smaller version reflects the traditional cradle form used by the Sámi people of northern Scandinavia, adapted here in a symbolic and decorative scale.
The cradle is constructed from shaped wood covered in leather, with a soft textile lining inside. It is richly decorated with colorful woven straps, braided wool cords, red felt trim, and small round studs. A small doll figure is included, along with a separate leather pouch tied with cord.
The pouch represents a symbolic “komsekule” container. Historically, protective objects such as silver balls or amulets were often hung from Sámi cradles to guard the child from harm or spirits. In souvenir and miniature sets, such pouches commonly serve as symbolic references to these traditions.
