Antique Norwegian milking stool from the 1800s, handcrafted in the tradition of Scandinavian rural folk art. The construction reflects practical farm craftsmanship, with carved side supports and sturdy legs built for daily dairy work.
The circular hole in the seat is a classic feature. It allowed the milker to carry the stool easily with one hand while holding a milk pail in the other. The visible iron nails and straightforward nailed construction point to an early utilitarian origin, from a time before mass produced furniture became common.
The surface shows stunning, honest patina. Traces of faded old brown paint remain along the sides, while the seat has worn naturally over time, revealing warm bare wood beneath. Minor repairs are present, typical for hardworking farm pieces that were used and maintained rather than discarded.
