Authentic 1800s Norwegian primitive milk bucket from the Telemark region, dated 1841. A true piece of rural Scandinavian history with deep roots in traditional farm life.
Built in classic stave construction, this wooden bucket was originally used for milking and everyday farm tasks. The date 1841 is carved underneath, grounding it firmly in the early 19th century. The curved iron handle sits between raised wooden ears, a characteristic feature of Norwegian rural craft. The lighter exterior bands are later replacements — a common and respectful way to preserve these working farm vessels for continued life and display.
The surface carries beautiful, honest patina. The interior is darkened from age and use, while the exterior shows natural grain, wear, and tonal variation that only generations of handling can create. It feels grounded, warm, and unmistakably authentic.
Today, pieces like this are cherished as decorative farmhouse statements. It works beautifully as a rustic garden planter, a flower bucket on a porch, or as a primitive accent beside a hearth. A quiet reminder of Norwegian farm life and old-world craftsmanship.
