Large mid century Norwegian ceramic wall relief designed by Konrad Galaaen for Porsgrund Porcelain. This piece represents the Prince figure from the series and is mounted on its original solid pine backing.
The glazed porcelain motif is created using a pressed relief technique where the design is formed into the clay and filled with rich colored glazes. This creates a beautiful depth effect and contrast between raised and recessed areas. The vibrant blues, greens and warm tones are characteristic of Scandinavian design from the 1960s–1970s.
This piece works beautifully indoors but can also be displayed outdoors, for example on a covered veranda, entryway or stair wall. The porcelain glaze will not fade in sunlight and reflects light beautifully in natural light. If displayed outdoors, applying clear oil to the wooden backing occasionally is recommended to preserve the wood over time.
