Beautiful hand turned wooden bowl from the Telemark region of Norway, made in the 1960s and decorated with traditional rosemaling. The interior features classic flowing floral scrollwork in warm yellow, green, red and brown tones, carefully hand painted.
Around the rim is an old Norwegian verse: “Gledes og frydes med blomster og blade, Gud har dem skapt for å gjøre oss glade.”
Translated to English: ““Rejoice and delight in flowers and leaves,
God created them to make us happy.”
Signed underneath “Skarås,” this piece reflects the strong folk art traditions of Telemark, where rosemaling has been practiced for generations.
