This antique Parian ware pitcher features the well-known “Babes in the Wood” relief motif — a popular Victorian narrative scene produced by several Staffordshire makers in the mid-19th century.
Crafted in white unglazed Parian porcelain (designed to imitate carved marble), the jug displays detailed raised decoration of children in a woodland setting. The handle is formed as a naturalistic tree branch, and the body features molded bark-like texture, characteristic of the genre.
Height: 11.1 cm (4.37 in)
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related wear and natural patina. The spout has an old metal reinforcement repair along the rim, likely added to stabilize a historic crack or chip. This repair is visible and forms part of the piece’s history. Structurally stable.
Stamped “PATENT” to base.
A desirable example of Victorian Parian ware and narrative ceramic design.
🎁 A distinguished gift for collectors of Victorian ceramics, Staffordshire pottery, and Parian ware.
