This authentic 18th century Norwegian horse collar bow is over 300 years old and represents a rare surviving example of early Scandinavian rural craftsmanship. Hand carved from solid wood, it features detailed primitive scrollwork and traditional rose carving.
What makes this piece especially remarkable is the hand carved human face motif integrated into the design. Such figural carving is uncommon and adds strong symbolic and artistic character, making this far more than a functional harness element.
The deep patina, softened edges, and remnants of early surface pigment reflect true age and honest use. Originally part of a working horse harness, this bow framed the horse’s neck to distribute pulling weight. Today it stands as a powerful sculptural folk art artifact and an important piece of over 300 year old Norwegian heritage.
