This decorative Norwegian bunad knife was made in the 1980s by Tore Noddeland, recognized as one of Norway’s top five knifemakers. It is a traditional dress knife, worn with bunad or other formal attire for national celebrations, church, and special occasions.
The handle is crafted from kristorn wood, a rare and exceptional material. Kristorn is extremely hard, heavy, and dense, and is known as one of the whitest woods in existence. It has a uniform ivory-white tone with almost no visible grain. Because of its tight structure, it can be sanded and polished to a very smooth, almost glass-like surface. The handle is hand carved in Noddeland’s well known flowing style.
The silver fittings are hand engraved and stamped 830S TN. The blade was forged by T. Rui and is stamped T RUI on the steel. The black leather sheath is also hand decorated and finished with engraved silver details.
Dimensions:
Total length with sheath: 7.76 inches (19.7 cm)
Knife length: 6.61 inches (16.8 cm)
Blade length: 2.76 inches (7 cm)
A refined and highly collectible piece of Norwegian craftsmanship.
