Authentic antique Norwegian kveik log, also known as a yeast stick or gjaerstokk, used in traditional farmhouse brewing.
This hand carved wooden tool was used to preserve kveik yeast between brewing sessions. After brewing, fresh yeast was applied into the carved holes and along the surface, then hung to dry using the attached rope.
When brewing again, the dried yeast was either scraped off or the stick was placed directly into the wort to reactivate fermentation.
Kveik is a unique Norwegian farmhouse yeast culture that has survived through generations and today holds official genetic heritage status in Norway.
