This vintage Norwegian troll figurine was produced by Figur-Kunst in Kragerø, Norway and designed by the German artist Sven Schulze, the main designer behind the well known Fosse troll series. The figure shows the classic seated troll with long nose, expressive face and thick wild hair.
Fosse trolls were handmade in Norway using natural latex derived from rubber tree sap together with other natural materials. Each figure was individually molded and hand painted, meaning every troll has its own slightly unique appearance and personality.
This example is marked “Ringebu” on the base, indicating it was produced as a regional Norwegian souvenir. While the place name varies between pieces, the sculpture itself corresponds to Fosse troll model 152, a popular design widely sold in Norwegian tourist shops during the early 1990s.
