Step back into the golden age of Scandinavian design with this vibrant porcelain bird wall plaque, designed by the legendary Konrad Galaaen for Porsgrund Porselæn in the 1970s. This piece is part of the prestigious "Studio" series, where Galaaen pushed the boundaries of porcelain as an artistic medium.
Galaaen was a master of the "Cuerda Seca" technique, which is beautifully showcased here. By using relief lines to separate different colored glazes, he achieved a stunning stained-glass effect. These plaques are fired at extremely high temperatures, resulting in a porcelain body that is incredibly strong and a glaze that is virtually indestructible. Because of this process, the colors are UV-resistant—they will never fade, making this piece perfect for both interior galleries and sun-drenched outdoor patios.
Konrad Galaaen (1923–2004) was a pioneer at Porsgrund, and his works are now highly sought after by collectors of Mid-Century Modern (MCM) and Nordic art. This bird, with its brilliant jewel tones, captures the playful yet sophisticated spirit of 1970s Norwegian studio porcelain.
