Elevate your space with this stunning Mid-Century Modern (MCM) porcelain bird plaque, a true masterpiece of Norwegian studio art. Designed in the 1970s by the acclaimed Konrad Galaaen for Porsgrund Porselæn, this piece belongs to the iconic "Studio" series, where art meets industrial perfection.
Konrad Galaaen was a pioneer in the "Cuerda Seca" (dry cord) technique. He utilized raised relief lines to create "cells" for the glazes, allowing for rich, saturated colors that resemble stained glass. This specific bird features a spectacular palette of amber orange, emerald green, and deep ruby red. Because these plaques are fired at exceptionally high temperatures, the porcelain is incredibly dense and the glazes are completely UV-resistant. The colors are permanent and will never fade, making this piece perfect for a sun-drenched gallery wall or an elegant outdoor patio.
Konrad Galaaen (1923–2004) is one of Norway’s most celebrated ceramicists, and his work is featured in museums worldwide. This large bird plaque, with its bold lines and vibrant jewel tones, is a quintessential example of 1970s Scandinavian modernism and a highly collectible piece of Nordic heritage.
