Acquire a beautiful companion piece of late 20th-century Nordic cultural history with this vintage framed porcelain art plaque from the historic Porsgrund Porselen factory in Norway. This exquisite collector's piece features a striking and detailed lithographic illustration by the renowned Norwegian painter and graphic artist Harald Kihle (1905–1997), famous for his deep, rustic depictions of traditional life and folklore in Telemark.
This artwork captures another legendary scene from the folk ballad of Guro Heddelid, titled "Guro rid forbi" (Guro Rides Past). The print depicts a blonde Guro riding gracefully on a sturdy white horse through a scenic, mossy Norwegian forest. The scene is observed from the dark threshold of an old log home by a young woman wearing a traditional yellow dress with orange polka dots. The artwork masterfully blends rich earthy brown tones with soft mint green and golden hues.
The porcelain plaque is beautifully preserved and presented in its original 1980s wooden frame, which has a warm amber finish and a classic textured linen inner mat with a gold-tone accent trim. The reverse side remains completely intact, featuring the original Porsgrund explanatory paper label that prints the continuing historic folk poem. A handwritten date on the frame reads "21-10-86", proving it was framed on the exact same day as its companion piece. A magnificent find for collectors of Norwegian art or folklore heritage.
