Step back into the golden age of Norwegian folk traditions with this impressive hand turned wooden ale bowl dated 1929. Large decorative drinking bowl crafted in the traditional Scandinavian style and painted with richly detailed rosemaling executed by a skilled and confident hand.
The interior is beautifully decorated with flowing floral motifs in classic Norwegian colors. Around the rim is an Old Norwegian inscription that translates approximately to: “Old food and strong drink have long been the good Norwegian custom in town, countryside and homeland.” The bowl is additionally marked O.O.S.V. 1929 and carries carved initials on the underside.
With its generous size and striking decoration, this piece works beautifully as a centerpiece, display object, or addition to a collection of Scandinavian folk art and treenware.
