The bowl is made from vertical wooden staves held securely by original light wood hoops, with a beautiful natural honey toned patina developed through age and use. Its most striking feature is the pair of hand carved horse head handles, each decorated with geometric chip carved mane details. In Scandinavian folk culture, the horse was often associated with strength, vitality, good fortune, and rural prosperity.
The body is decorated with traditional burned line work, including scalloped borders and dotted details running around the staves. The underside is branded with the historical initials “S.B.”, giving the piece a personal and authentic presence. Today, this bowl makes a powerful display object for collectors of Norwegian folk art, primitive antiques, equestrian décor, and early European woodworking.
