A distinctive Norwegian Saga drinking horn by Arne Haugrud A/S, combining a dark natural horn body with hand-crafted pewter ornamentation and strong Viking-inspired details. The sculptural form rests on three decorative pewter legs and features an ornate pewter tip, fitted collar, lidded top, and helmeted figure finial.
The original paper tag identifies this as a “SAGA” horn with hand-crafted pewter ornamentation and describes it as a traditional Norwegian utility article. The pewter fitting is also marked “Handmade – Pewter Made in Norway.” This example carries additional personal history: the upper band is engraved as a farewell gift from Gilde FS, commemorating employment or cooperation from 1964 to 2004. Gilde was one of Norway’s major meat producers, giving the piece an interesting Norwegian workplace and corporate provenance.
With its dramatic curved silhouette and traditional Nordic styling, this horn works beautifully as a display piece, collector’s item, conversation piece, or addition to a Viking, Scandinavian, Norwegian folk art, or pewter collection. The original Saga Horn tag is still attached.
