A remarkable piece of pre-industrial Scandinavian craftsmanship: an authentic 18th-century Norwegian wooden moulding plane.
Handmade from dense hardwood, this historic woodworking tool features hand-carved owner’s initials and decorative folk art details on both sides. One side bears the initials “S.T.S.” with decorative carved accents, while the opposite side shows “I.B.A.” together with an individual “B” marking. A hanging hole is drilled into the heel, consistent with traditional workshop storage.
The plane retains a deep, dark patina developed through centuries of age, handling and use. Its wooden body remains solid and structurally stable, while the original hand-forged iron blade and wooden wedge are still present. With careful sharpening, it may potentially be returned to working use, though it also makes an outstanding display piece for collectors of antique tools, Scandinavian folk art and early woodworking history.
