Step back into the golden age of Norwegian folk art with this impressive antique løvekrus, a traditional Norwegian lion tankard dating from the late 1800s.
This covered wooden tankard is hand carved and made in the historic Scandinavian folk art tradition. The top of the lid features a carved Norwegian lion, while the handle also has a carved lion detail. The tankard stands on carved feet and has the initials “OB” carved under the lid, adding a personal and historic touch.
This piece has a strong decorative presence and displays beautifully as a cabinet piece, shelf accent, or part of a Nordic antiques and folk art collection. It is in very good antique condition and has clearly been well cared for. No wormholes or similar insect damage observed. As expected for a late 19th century wooden object, there are age related marks, patina, natural wood lines, small surface wear, and variations in the grain.
This item is intended for decorative display and collecting. It is not recommended for use with food or drink.
