Vintage Konrad Galaaen Rallar Man Wall Plaque - 1970s Porsgrund Porcelain, Norwegian Ceramic Relief on Wood
$275.00
A distinctive piece of 1970s Norwegian ceramic art, designed by renowned ceramic artist Konrad Galaaen for Porsgrund Porcelain.
This sculptural wall plaque depicts “Rallaren,” also known as “The Man with the Spade.” The stylized railway worker is rendered as a glazed porcelain relief with rich cobalt blue, green, brown, black and white details. The figure is mounted on a tall wooden board whose natural grain provides a warm contrast to the glossy ceramic surface.
Konrad Galaaen was one of Norway’s important ceramic designers and worked at Porsgrund Porcelain for 43 years. His colorful ceramic reliefs became some of his most recognizable decorative works.
The wooden board is signed “K Galaaen” on the lower front and has a metal fitting on the back for wall display.
