Norwegian Folk Art Wooden Jewelry Box - Hand-Painted Pedestal Bowl with Lid, Circa 1920s
$220.00 $275.00
A handmade and hand-painted Norwegian folk art jewelry box, circa the 1920s, shaped as a footed wooden bowl with a removable lid.
This box has been used to store bunad jewelry, including silver brooches and ornaments worn with traditional Norwegian folk dress.
The decoration combines floral motifs, concentric rings, and geometric borders in red, white, and blue. Over the years, the colors have faded and mellowed, giving the blue a greenish appearance and the white a warm, aged tone. The painted lid knob and turned pedestal complete its distinctive silhouette.
