Antique Norwegian Rosemaling Basket Dated 1887 - Hand-Painted Wooden Folk Art Basket with Handle
$540.00 $675.00
A colorful antique Norwegian wooden basket dated 1887, decorated with hand-painted flowers and scrolling foliage. Known in Norway as a sendingskurv, this type of traditional visiting basket was used to carry food gifts between households for celebrations and important family occasions.
The basket features deep blue panels framed in green, with flowers in pink, red, yellow, pale blue, and white. Floral decoration continues across the arched wooden handle, where the date 1887 appears in a bordered panel.
Its interlocking wooden construction, pale blue interior, and decorated framework give the basket character from every angle. A distinctive example of Norwegian folk art for a collection or a display of Scandinavian antiques.
